ANCIENT GREECE

If you´re interested in ancient Greece and Greek history there´s a lot to see and experience in this area of Greece.

Northern Greece - Macedonia as this part of the country is called - is forever connected to the name of Alexander the Great.

The gold from the mines of the Pangeo mountain founded the growth of the Macedonian kingdom and Alexander´s world conquest tour.

It´was his father, Phillip the second, who founded the city of Phillipi - today the biggest and most interesting ancient site in this part of Greece.

Even in Kavala ancient Greek history is present - the old Roman aqueduct crosses the center, and an old Byzantine castle thrones on the top of the ancient part of the small town.

This is where Saint Paul landed when he came to Greece - read more about his journeys in Greece here.

The Pangeo mountain is also - in some myths - considered the birth place of the Greek god of wine, Dionysus. The cult of the wine god was very strong in Thrace and Macedonia. Wine has been cultivated here for thousands´s of years and even if you won´t be able to taste a wine that is that old, at least you´ll be able to taste wine, made from grapes grown in the same soil as when Dionysus and his cult was in charge.

The ancient Greek didn´t only drink - they ate, as well. Ancient Greek food and kitchen was rather sophisticated. Staying with us at Kairos garden, you´ll even get the chance to try out a lovely dish based on an ancient Greece food recipe.
