BANSKO IN BULGARIA

Situated in the middle of the Pirin mountains, this village is the natural starting point for anyone wanting to explore this stunning mountain area.

As it´s a great place for skiing, a recent boom created enormous hotel complexes around the old, traditional village.

In the winter the village is a buzzing ski center, attracting tourists from all over Europe.

However, the village is even more beautiful during the summer months - for instance, here´s your chance to see the rare edelweiss. .

For anyone wanting to go hiking in this area, we are co-operating with mountain guide and native Kostadin Kotirkovi. (He has also taken all the photos on this page).

Together with his wife Elena, Kostadin runs a small guesthouse in the old town, which we recommend for anyone wanting a comfortable and central place to stay - and with a quite a bit more atmosphere than the giant hotels surrounding town.

If you belong to a small group staying with us, and don´t have a car of your own, we can arrange for transfer to and from his place.

I can also add that the drive from Eleftheres, along the Pangeo mountain to Drama, than crossing the border to Bulgaria at Nevrokopi, is a very pretty trip itself.
