BULGARIA

Bulgaria is only one and a half hour away by car from Eleftheres, and worth visiting - whether on a day trip or for a couple of days.

So close and so different - or at least that was my first impressions when I first went to Bulgaria.

The first thing that struck me was the poverty: farmers ploughing their fields with horses, apartment building with plaster falling of the walls and no light bulbs in the hallways.

But now as we have visited several times, I also see the richness of this country - both in culture and in natural beauty.

Actually, our across the Rhodopi mountains to Smolyan is probably one of the most beautiful journeys I have ever done.

Shopping

Prices of almost everything is still half of what you pay in Greece. Visiting for instance the everyday outdoor marked in the little town of Petrich across the border it´s easy to go wild - here you can find shoes, clothes, handbags and jewellery to very low prices.

Also worth shopping is ceramics, wood craft and furniture - which is extremely cheap - rose and of course, Bulgarian wine.

Places to visit

Bansko, situated in the middle of the stunning Pirin mountains, is only 170 kilometres from us.

Though mainly known as a ski resort, the place is a wonderful experience also in the summer.

Plovdiv must be one of the best kept secrets of the Balkans.

Elegant, beautiful and full of surprises - not strange that this small city is nick named the Paris of Balkan.

Return from Bulgaria to KAIROS main page

Kairos garden is a great, tranquil and relaxing retreat where nice, friendly and open minded people meet, for inspiration and fun.

We love it here! The food is amazing and the atmosphere so warm and friendly.
