Greece for Kids

Are you looking for activities in Greece for kids?

When you are staying with us at Kairos garden you´ll find that there are plenty of fun things to do with your children in the area - and that you´ll enjoy, too!

Read more about family holidays at our place here.

Also make sure you check out our family friendly yoga workshops.

And here´s a list with SOME suggestions to things to do in this part of Greece for kids:

  • The ancient site of Philippi is popular among children. Not so much because of the history, but because you can roam around and climb all those ancient ruins - not to mention go on an exciting exploration climb to the old acropolis on the top of the small mountain. Here you can see turtles, lizards and even snakes (wear shoes, not sandals!). In the park next to the site there is a playground and snack bar. Avoid Philippi when it´s too hot.

  • The Alistrati caves is exciting for children of all ages. You can even bring a push chair for small babies. Watch out for bats!

  • Almost as impressive as the Alistrati caves, and with a river running through it, is the cave of Maara outside the small town of Drama.

  • A visit to Drama and the central park Saint Barbara (where these photos are taken) is enjoyable with children, especially on very warm days - here it will be cool! Feed the ducks, climb the trees and enjoy an ice cream in one of the coffee shops. Here you´ll also find nice playgrounds. At Xmas part of the park is transformed into a Santa village.

  • Walk along the Nestos river in the gorge. Even small children can easily manage walk here - and watch out to see if the train will come through the tunnels below you! A lovely excursion for the whole family is to drive to Drama and then take the old, cozy train from there to the village of Toksotis, walk down to the river and spend a few hours there, before taking the train back. You can also drive almost the same route, from Drama, through the mountains to Toksotis.

  • Try rafting in the quiet waters of the Nestos river or riding in the Rodopi mountains. In Stavroupolis north of Xanthi as well as in the mountain village of Paranesti there are outdoor activity center where you also can try climbing on an outdoor climbing wall, archery, flying fox and other activities. Pretty also for walking.

  • Combine swimming at the beaches south of Eleftheres, for instance by the old Byzantine tower next to the old Thessaloniki highway, with a visit to the bath spa hotel Loutra Eleftheron. Situated in a beautiful valley with a cool river, where you sometimes can find turtles swimming, it´s a nice area for walking, playing and exploring the shallow river. Here´s also a good taverna for a family meal.

  • The Kerkini dam with it´s amazing animal and bird life. Here you can rent bikes or horses to get around or you can go on a boat trip on the dam. Watch out for flamingos and water buffaloes!

  • The old town of Kavala is mainly car free. Walk up to the old fortress or enjoy the breath taking view from the school yard on the tip of the old town peninsula. You can even climb down on paths and have a swim from the rocks.

  • Waterland in Thessaloniki is supposed to be one of the biggest waterparks in Europe. Fun for children of all ages! Situated to too far from the airport it easy accessible on your way to or from Kairos garden - or make it a day excursion (it will take you approximately one and a half hour to drive there).

  • And finally, the most popular activity in these parts of Greece for kids: our stunning, child friendly beaches!
