Walk along Nestos river

The stunning walk along Nestos river is almost a must while spending your holidays at Kairos Garden!

Hiking here is a beautiful experience all year around and offer a welcome and refreshing break from the beach in the summer.

The path is carved into the side of the mountain, high above the river.

Starting point is the village of Toksotis, a 40 minutes drive from Eleftheres. Signs lead you down to the parking by the river bank and from here itīs very easy to find and follow the path.

The path is very easy. I do recommend good shoes, though walking here on a Sunday morning youīll meet Greek ladies in their typical Sunday outfit: High heels and full make up. So it can be walked, even without trainers!

You can walk as far as you can...Actually, serious hikers will bring rucksacks and tents and walk all the way up to the waterfalls of Leivaditis, approximately 20 kilometers. Here, in the mountain of Rodopi, you might be lucky and see the flocks of wild horses.

Equally thrilling as the horses, at least for young walkers, is to see the train passing through the tunnels along river Nestos - a scene that looks like itīs taken out of a Western film.

Actually, there is something almost unreal about the scenery here. Maybe because itīs so unlike what you expect in Greece. But like I say: Here in northern Greece we have it all!

PS: The snake on the photo is NOT poisonous!
