The Tsipouro Festival

The tsipouro festival is something not to be missed if you stay with us in the autumn.

The festival takes place the last week end in October every year and marks the beginning of the annual tsipouro production.

With itīs 72 kazania, distilleries,Eleftheres is the tsipouro municipality in Greece. The local authorities are working hard to promote this product not only all over the country, but also abroad. So the festival is a part of this promotion.

The smell of tsipouro blends in with the crystal clear autumn air and intoxicates you even before you have tasted the product, the tourist pamphlets says.

Free food and drinks

At the main square and along the beach in Peramos, the main village of the municipality there are put up grills and stands where you get food and drinks - not only tsipouro, but also a taste of local wines. There are put out tables to seat hundreds of people.

An orchestra is playing and at the square and under the palm trees folk dance groups are dancing - and soon to be joined by everyone who loves to move their feet!

Celebrations in every village

Though the main feast is taking place in Peramos, there are also celebrations going on in all the seven villages in the municipality.

The kazania are working day and night until the end of January, the farmers taking turns to get their tsipouro distilled. Every farmer will have his own "secret" recipe. In addition to anis, common ingredients are pomegranate, apples or mastic from Chios
