Wine Tasting Vacations

TRY THE GREAT LOCAL WINES

Wine tasting vacations might not be what you had in mind when thinking about a holiday to Greece. Though Greece traditionally has not been known for good wine, this has changed fast the past few years.

Ktima Biblia Hora (picture), as well as other wine producers in this region now create wines that are considered some of the best in the world.

(Ktima means estate and in wine making terms it equals the French term chateau).

Kairos Garden is the perfect starting point if you want to explore the wine production of the area. The village itself is surrounded by vineyards. We are situated centrally in the wine region of Pangeo, named after the mythical mountain that was the very birthplace and main cult area of the very wine god himself, Dionysus.

Wine has been produced here for at least 4000 years.

Many of the bigger wine producers offer guided tours and wine tasting in the winery. These wineries are worth visiting even for their architecture and design! And of course you want to buy some bottles to take with you home.

We normally don“t stock these wines in the restaurant, but feel free to bring a bottle or two if you want to try it out with your evening meal at Kairos Garden.

Our house wine is regional wine, and comes from smaller producers in the area.

One of them is Tsikrikoni. This family has produced wine for generations. Stathis (picture), who is running the family business today practically grew up in the vineyards.

He tells of how he after school would go on his bike to the fields where his parents where working and lie under the vines reading his homework. That might be one of the reasons why he got such a fingertip feeling for wine making.

Stathis speaks passionately about creating wine and how he instinctively knows how a dash of this grape and a bit of that one will add just the flavour that makes his Sauvignon stand out from the Sauvignon produced by others. He says with a proud smile:

The wine should reflect the personality of the person who makes it!
